We know how difficult it is to provide three fresh, balanced meals each day for our family. Yet, many people continue to believe that “we can get everything we need from food”.

In practice, even very careful eaters find it difficult to ensure that they receive the range of essential viramins, minerals and polynutrients in their daily diet.

Here are some reasons :

1. Food choice and habit

We don’t eat sufficiently wide in variety, often sticking to the few types of food that we like. Spinach may be full of nutrients, but Popeye isn’t necessarily healthy if that’s all he eats.

2. Over cooking

Heat destroys many valuable food nutrients. But for the sake of taste, we continue to boil, fry, roast and grill the goodness out of our food.

3. Variation in nutrient content

The same food – cultivated in different locations, planted in different seasons, or processed to different degrees – can end up containing very different nutrient profiles.

A nutritional supplement does not replace a healthy diet. But proper supplementation can bridge the gap between what our body needs in optimal nutrition, and what most of us actually get from food.

“Most people do not consume an optimal amount of all vitamins by diet alone. Pending strong evidence of effectiveness from randomized trials, it appears prudent for all adults to take vitamin supplements.”

(Robert H. Fletcher,MD,MSc. Kathleen M. Fairfield,MD,DrPH.Journal of American Medical Association)

The Orange Question

Good you’ve eaten a fresh orange. But one orange can have five times more nutritional value that another.

Which one did you just eat?

Of all many places I’ve known and of all many people I’ve met before, it was really shocked  to know that the boys working at the kiosk are from Johor, more precisely Kulai. hehe..

When I was in primary school, there’s one girl named Haslina. She’s a sweet lady who always smile and she always do ponytail. I’m quite jealous at her at that time b’coz my hair is not as long as her. (hehe..)

She’s now having a practical at a school where my mother works. One day, they were chit-chatting and only then we came to know that his brother is working here. Some of the conversations are like this …

Haslina : Adik saya keje kt upm, cikgu.

Ibu : Kt upm kt mana?

Haslina : Kolej 17. Keje dgn pkcik saya. Dia keje kt kedai sebelah koperasi.

Ibu : Eh,ily kt kolej 17… :)

Haslina : Entah2 ily kenal adik saya…

Later that evenng my mom told me about her conversations and I was a little bit shocked but quite excited. hehe.. I plan to go to kiosk on d next day but since Iqa and I planned to go to Mines on the next day, my plan was postponed (not cancelled).

The following day (on Saturday), after came back from Seminar Asas Keusahawanan which is compulsory for us taking MGM 3180 to attend to…I walked to kiosk with the hope that it’s opened and Haslina’s brother (Aizuddin) was there. Unfortunately, he wasn’t there so I asked the boy on duty whether he knew Aizuddin.

Me : Dik, ada x org nama Aizudin keje sini.

Adik koop : Ada..kenapa kak?

Me : Tak ada ape,satu kampung…

Adik koop : Akak duduk mana?

Me : Taib Andak.. (huu..x pasal2 mengaku org kg Mawi)

Adik koop : Oo…saya pun org sana jugak. Saya dengan dia la. Saya ddk Anjaria.

Me : (tetibe je jadik sronok jmpa org kg) Lahir thn brp ea?

Adik koop : 91.

Me : Ingat x cikgu zaharah? Akak ni anak dia la..

Adik koop : Ingat. Oo.. Aizudin ada kt kdai fotostat tu.

Me : Oo..k,k..

(begitulah lebih krg perbualan kami w’pun pnjg lg sebenanrnya)

When I thought about that again, it’s quite funny b’coz I walked to kiosk right after coming back from banquet hall and just bought an orange Tropicana Twister so that I can go to the counter and asked about Aizudin.

I was quite reluctant to go to photocopy shop after that b’coz there are other persons there too. But then, I walked into the shop and saw a chubby boy inside sitting in front of the computer with abg kdai fotostat next to him. So, I just waith there for a while until abg kedai fotostat asked me something.

Abg fotostat : Nk print ke?

Me : Tak..nk jumpa dia ni. (sambil tunjuk kt aizudin) Aizudin Ilham ke ni?

Aizudin : Eh..ye..kenapa? (dlm nada terkejut)

Me : Ingat x cg zaharah (skali lg gne nama mak,huhu..) ? Akak ni anak dia.

Aizudin : Ingat…oo

(pastu adik koop-Ayat tu pun masuk)

Ayat : Akak ni..anak cg zaharah. Dia ni baik dgn akak kau.

Aizudin : Tau..akak aku ada cite.

Ayat : Akak amik course apa, kak?

Me : Biomedic

Aizudin : Sem brp?

Me : Ada lg sethn.

Mse tu kt kdai fotostat ada 2 org, adik kdai fotostat tu tnya.. ” kenapa tu?”

Abg kdai fotostat : Jejak kasih..

(huu..segan jugak time tuh)

We talked a lil’ bit after that and before I left, I gave both of them my business cards (hehe…one of my mission going to the kiosk). Later in the evening I called my mom, told her everything and we laughed. Hurm..i never thought that I’d meet someone from Taman Anjaria here in K17 and I never thought they were my juniors actually. It’s a small world after all… :)

There’s only one day left for me to study and revise everything before the test week. It’s quite a tense situation. And at this moment, I really miss home… :( Feel like wanna go home again…

Last week, I went back to my hometown in Johor for about 3 nights & 3 days. I went home on Thursday. Soon after finishing our last class, we rushed to our room and packed everything to go home. Saadah and I are both from Johor but we live in different district. Saadah lives in Pengerang (near to Singapore) whereas I live in Kulai (Mawi’s & Que Haidars’s hometown ;) ).

The weather was nice on that day. Our hearts were full of excitement as it had been almost a month since we last went home. Halfway to Pudu, it was suddenly raining. We looked at each other cluelessly and could only pray that we managed to reached Puduraya on time. Finally, we succeeded to board the bus on time (4pm) after went through heavy rain and got drenched. It was very cold in the bus and we had to bare with it. It was quite not a very smooth journey for both of us but thinking of our home made us become strong and patient. Hehe.. :)

I reached home at about 15 to 10. After unpacked my bags, I went to sleep. On the next day, I went to my grandparents’ house. My parents were working on that day and I felt bored staying alone at home. So, I hang out with my little cousins at my grandparents’.

I have 5 cousins from my mother’s side and 3 of them stay with my grandparents. The only girl out of 3 is Echah, a 5 year old girl. At first, she seemed a little bit shy but after a few minutes she came to me and asked me to unpack some sweets for her. Later, she played with my handphone and sang a song from Agnes Monica, Matahariku. It’s amazing that she cam remember about 80% of the lyrics. Then, she tried to snap some pictures using my handphone.

her first attempt...

her first attempt...

Her first trial. Not a good pic… so I asked her to try again and again.
Finally….
at last she managed to get a good pic..

at last she managed to get a good pic..

tadaa…she succed (thanks to her kak long for teaching the right techniques, hee..) ;)
Later, she took her brother’s pic..
Echah's brother, Haziq...

I stayed there until late afternoon because Echah didn’t allow me to go back. Later in the evening, we went to school to fetch my mother and her 2nd brother, Iman…

It’s really fun to play with her as she’s cute and smart. I really miss them all…

Lately, I miss my old friends a lot. It has been a long time since we last met and hung out together. Responsibilities and busyness has stolen most of our times to be together. Yet, it doesn’t mean that we forget each other. It’s just we can’t meet each other often. But then, the thick and thin that we went through together are still fresh in our minds…

from left : me, aini & ija

from left : me, aini & ija

We are best friends since we were in KMJ. They are very nice persons, funny, sporting,supportive,etc..etc.. We make a team of four including Ikha and each of us has our own nicknames which only 4 of us know them. (maybe 5 or 6 now, i think) :)

Ija & I are studying at the same uni. but we seldom meet each other as my college is quite far & a little bit isolated  from hers. But we still hang out together sometimes. We once merempit together to Alamanda and watched Inkheart..(one of the best movie i’ve watched this year) Ija is a happy go luck girl and looks sweet even if she doesn’t smile.  Mungkin sbb tu dia ramai peminat kot..hehe

Aini is studying at UKM (this sem is her final sem) and we never meet each other after matric. until this sem but now we often meet each other because we have a business together. hee.. ;) She is now much more fairer and radiant after consuming USANA products. I got to know her because she’s a friend of Ikha and coincidently we stayed at the same hostel but different floor. And it’s quite surprised that we were also in d same class. That’s what people call jodoh kot.. When she was in matric. , her Kedah slanga was quite strong..hehe.. There’s one word I learnt from her and Ikha that I still remember until now which is “ketegak/ketegaq” (i don’t know d real spelling) which means degil (some sort like that la..) She already has a sweetheart now (which she kept it a secret from us at first but I already knew it from her fster). Hehe.. And as for now, the cat has been out of the bag. hee..;)

ikha & me

I knew Ikha when we were in matric. We were in the same group during orientation week, we stayed in the same hostel & we were in the same practicum and that’s how we became close. I miss Ikha a lot. It has been a year since we last met. She’s a medical student at UM and has always been very busy. But I believe she never forget us and I always pray that one day 4 of us can hang out together again like before. :)

wan...

wan...

This is Suhanidah, my best friend when I was in STF. We call her Wan. She’s a Sabahan. She’s a very cute girl & has a soft voice. We never meet again after SPM but we still keep in touch. She sat in the same row with me in class and we always finish homework together after prep. class. She’s now studying at UMS and I don’t know when we’re going to meet again but I’m certain that we’ll meet again as I’m going to attend her wedding when the time comes. Hehe…
